Maggie And Milly And Molly And May

Maggie And Milly And Molly And May By E.E. Cummings! Just like different poems by means of E.E. Cummings (1894-1962), fashionable punctuation and capitalization guidelines are no longer observed in this poem. While on the surface, this can be a lighthearted poem about 4 teenagers enjoying on the beach, there is a good deal deeper which means about who we are as people. Just like the women in this poem, when we step out into nature, we are certain to discover new matters and research new matters about ourselves. This poem is lyrical, and the alliteration of every girl’s identity establishing with “m” provides the rhythm.

Maggie And Milly And Molly And May

maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles,and

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea
